              Job Description
        The AFSIM Simulation group within Phantom Works Strategy and Program Development (S&PD) organization has an immediate need for a software engineer to support the development of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and the application these techniques in the area of Air-to-Air tactics and behavior modeling.
This position requires the ability to understand the current suite of C++ and scripted AI utilities, research and develop new capabilities to meet growing complex needs, and demonstrate work with new agents in the mission area of Air-to-Air warfare.
Our Boeing modeling & simulation (M&S) group develops a C++ simulation framework adopted by the Air Force as a standard tools suite called the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, & Modeling (AFSIM). The primary goal of AFSIM applications is the assessment of new system concepts and designs with advanced capabilities not easily assessed within traditional simulations.
Development activities of this position will likely be focused in the AI areas of agent perception, knowledge representation, planning, decision making, optimal execution acROSs varied domains (path finding, resource allocation, etc…), multi-agent coordination within hierarchies, and development of example agents.

            Typical Education/Experience:
Level 2: Bachelor's and 2 or more years' experience or a Master's degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Level 3: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

The successful candidate will have a background in object-oriented software design methodologies, expertise in developing C++ software, and an interest in agent based simulations. A bonus would be to have experience in behavior modeling, artificial intelligence, or advanced algorithms. An understanding of Air-Air warfare tactics and/or knowledge of the legacy Brawler engagement level simulation model would also be beneficial.

This position requires an active (or ability to obtain) U.S. Security Clearance, for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. The specific clearance requirement for this opening is an active US Secret Security Clearance. (Note: If you held a security clearance within the last two years, your clearance is considered current/active).

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required.

This position requires that you work out of St. Louis, Missouri. You must currently reside in the St. Louis, Missouri area (where relocating would not be required) or be willing to relocate at your own expense.
